House in Voluntari

description
The consecrated scheme of kitchen - dining room and living room sequence is contradicted spectacularly in the case of this residence. The daytime area is expressed independently, sheltered in a self standing cylindrical volume with two levels – the empty space above the ground floor living room reveals an office at the first floor. The other volume, with the south facade lined up with the longer side of the parallelogram described by the site, is compound by three levels. The entry hallway serves as a communication point between the independent circular building from the east side and the dining room stretching in the extension of the open kitchen at the ground floor of the longer volume. This connection bridge between the two major elements of the ensemble is continued vertically on the next level, floating in a transparent glass shell, developed as a cross joint between the two types of surfaces. The next levels protect the intimacy of the predominantly nocturnal activities, through a fine dosing of full/hollow ratio. The three bedrooms from the second level, respectively the other two bedrooms from the third level are treated differently as sizing and degree of transparency. Thereby, the most extroverted room is the one from the south-east side of the first floor, which reveals an entirely glazed corner. The last level creates a comprehensive terrace, unfolding under the broad sun-blind that seems to protect the entire house.
